Dermal Fillers in Pune: Restoring Volume and Softening Folds
Dermal fillers are gels, most often hyaluronic acid, injected under the skin to restore lost volume, soften folds and shape areas such as the lips, cheeks, chin and under-eye hollows. A session usually takes 30-45 minutes. Results are visible straight away and, with hyaluronic acid fillers, usually last from about six months to over a year.

- Dermal fillers explained (Hindi)Dr. Sushrut explains how dermal fillers treat lines, folds and lost volume, and what to know before treatment.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are soft gels injected under the skin. Most fillers used today are made of hyaluronic acid, a sugar that occurs naturally in the skin and holds water. The gel adds volume where it is placed and is slowly broken down by the body over months.
With age, the face loses fat and bone support, so cheeks flatten, hollows form under the eyes and folds deepen around the nose and mouth. Fillers replace some of that volume. They are also used to shape the lips, chin and jawline.
Other filler materials exist, including longer-lasting and permanent ones. Permanent fillers cannot be dissolved and have more long-term complications, so hyaluronic acid is usually preferred.
Who may benefit, and how is suitability assessed?
Fillers may suit you if you have:
- thin lips or lips that have lost shape;
- flat cheeks or hollow temples;
- hollows under the eyes (tear troughs);
- deep smile lines (nasolabial folds) or lines at the mouth corners;
- a small chin or a soft jawline you would like defined;
- depressed scars, in selected cases.
The doctor will look at your face at rest and when moving, and ask about pregnancy, allergies, cold sores, autoimmune conditions, blood thinners and earlier fillers or implants. Sagging skin or large bags may be better treated with a thread lift, eyelid surgery or a facelift.
What are the options for restoring volume?
| Option | What it can do | Limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Hyaluronic acid fillers | Quick, precise, reversible volume | Temporary; rare vascular complications |
| Fat grafting | Natural volume from your own fat | Needs a donor site; survival varies |
| Chin implant | Fixed, lasting chin projection | Surgery; implant risks |
| Botox | Softens lines caused by movement | Does not add volume |
| Facelift or thread lift | Repositions sagging tissue | Does not add volume on its own |
How are fillers injected?
- Planning: the doctor discusses the areas, the look you want and the amount of filler likely to be needed.
- Cleaning and numbing: the skin is cleaned thoroughly, and numbing cream may be applied.
- Injection: the filler is placed in small amounts with a fine needle or a blunt flexible cannula, at a depth suited to the area. The doctor checks your face as they go.
- Shaping: the area may be gently moulded. Ice can reduce swelling.
- Review: a check after about two weeks, when swelling has settled.
How should you prepare, and what should you ask?
- Avoid alcohol and, if your doctor agrees, supplements that increase bruising for a day or two before.
- Plan treatment at least two weeks before an important event.
- Tell the doctor about cold sores; preventive medicine may be given before lip filler.
Questions to ask:
- Which filler will be used, and is it approved and genuine?
- How much is needed, and how long will it last in this area?
- What will you do if a blood vessel is affected?
- Can the filler be dissolved if I do not like it?
What is recovery like?
| Time | What to expect for most patients |
|---|---|
| First day | Swelling, tenderness and small injection marks; avoid make-up for a few hours |
| Days 1-3 | Swelling is often most noticeable, especially in the lips; possible bruising |
| Week 1 | Swelling settles; avoid heavy exercise, saunas and massage of the area for a day or two |
| Week 2 | Final shape is clear; review appointment |
What are the risks of fillers?
Common, usually mild effects are swelling, bruising, tenderness and small lumps that settle or can be massaged. Other risks include:
- Uneven result or overfilling, which can be adjusted or dissolved.
- Infection, uncommon.
- Lumps or nodules that appear later, sometimes needing treatment.
- Bluish tint if filler is placed too close to the surface under the eyes.
- Blocked blood vessel (vascular occlusion): rare but serious. Filler pressing on or entering an artery can cause skin damage and, very rarely, loss of vision or stroke.
Contact the doctor at once, or seek emergency care, if you notice severe pain, skin that turns pale, dusky or blotchy, or any change in vision after treatment.
What results can you expect?
Volume is restored straight away, with the final look clear after swelling settles. The result fades gradually as the filler is absorbed, often over six to eighteen months depending on the area. Many people repeat treatment with smaller amounts.
What affects the cost of dermal fillers in Pune?
- Areas treated and amount of filler needed, usually measured in syringes.
- Product used.
- Repeat or maintenance sessions.
- Review visits, and dissolving filler if needed.
Cosmetic fillers are usually not covered by insurance.
Questions about dermal fillers
How long do dermal fillers last?
It depends on the product, the area and how quickly your body breaks it down. Hyaluronic acid fillers often last around six to twelve months in the lips and longer, sometimes over a year, in the cheeks and chin.
Are fillers safe?
Side effects are usually mild, such as swelling and bruising. A rare but serious risk is filler blocking a blood vessel, which can damage skin or, very rarely, affect vision. Choosing a trained doctor who uses approved products and knows facial anatomy lowers this risk.
Can fillers be removed?
Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if the result is not wanted or a complication occurs. Permanent fillers cannot be dissolved and are generally avoided for this reason.
What is the difference between fillers and Botox?
Fillers add volume to fill hollows and folds. Botox relaxes muscles to soften lines that appear with movement, such as frown lines. Many people have both, in different areas.
Fillers or fat grafting?
Fillers are quick, precise and temporary, with no donor site. Fat grafting uses your own fat, needs a small liposuction and can last longer, but how much survives is less predictable. See fat grafting vs fillers.
Do lip fillers hurt?
The lips are sensitive, so numbing cream is applied first and most fillers contain local anaesthetic. Most people feel pressure and brief stinging. The lips are often swollen for one to three days.
Who should not have fillers?
Fillers are avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with active skin infection or cold sores in the area, and with some autoimmune conditions or allergies. Tell the doctor about all medicines and earlier filler treatments.
