Double Chin Removal in Pune: Defining the Jaw and Neck
Double chin removal treats fullness under the chin caused by fat, loose skin or both. Chin and neck liposuction removes the fat through tiny openings under local anaesthesia, usually as day care, with a compression strap worn for a few days. Fat-dissolving injections suit small amounts of fat, while very loose skin may need a neck lift.

What causes a double chin?
Fullness under the chin (the submental area) has a few possible causes, often together:
- Fat under the skin, which can run in families and is not always linked to body weight.
- Loose skin that has lost elasticity with age or weight loss.
- Muscle bands in the neck that become visible with age.
- A small or set-back chin, which makes the jawline short.
- Deeper fat or glands under the muscle, less often.
Double chin removal starts by working out which of these is the main cause, because each needs a different treatment.
Who may benefit, and how is suitability assessed?
Chin and neck liposuction suits people who have fullness from fat, reasonably elastic skin, stable weight and good general health. The doctor will feel the fat with you looking down and up, assess skin tone and the neck muscles, look at the chin and jaw in profile, and ask about thyroid problems, swallowing, medicines and earlier treatments.
What are the options for a double chin?
| Option | What it can do | Limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Chin and neck liposuction | Removes fat in one session; sharper jawline | Does not tighten very loose skin |
| Fat-dissolving injections | Reduce small amounts of fat without surgery | Several sessions; marked swelling after each |
| Neck lift or facelift | Removes loose skin and tightens muscle | Surgery with a longer recovery |
| Chin implant | Improves a short jawline from a small chin | Does not remove fat |
| Weight loss | Reduces fat everywhere | May not change fat under the chin much |
Liposuction of other areas is described on the liposuction surgery page.
How is double chin removal performed?
- Marking: the area of fat is marked with you sitting up.
- Anaesthesia: tumescent fluid with local anaesthetic is injected to numb the area and reduce bleeding; sedation may be added.
- Liposuction: a thin cannula is passed through two or three tiny openings, usually under the chin and behind the earlobes, and fat is gently suctioned, leaving a smooth layer under the skin.
- Shaping: the jawline is checked from all sides for smoothness and symmetry.
- Strap: the openings are covered and a compression chin strap is fitted.
How should you prepare, and what should you ask?
- Keep your weight stable before surgery.
- Stop smoking and review medicines that affect bleeding with your doctor.
- Arrange for someone to take you home.
Questions to ask:
- Is my fullness from fat, loose skin, muscle bands or a small chin?
- Will my skin tighten after liposuction?
- Would injections be enough for me?
- How long do I need to wear the strap?
What is recovery like?
| Time | What to expect for most patients |
|---|---|
| Days 1-3 | Swelling, bruising and tightness under the chin; strap worn most of the time |
| Days 3-7 | Back to desk work; bruising fades |
| Weeks 1-2 | Strap at night or as advised; avoid heavy exercise |
| Weeks 2-6 | Most swelling settles; small firm areas soften |
| Month 3 | Final jawline clear |
What are the risks of double chin removal?
- Swelling, bruising and numbness, expected and usually temporary.
- Unevenness or irregular contour, sometimes needing touch-up.
- Loose skin if skin elasticity is poor.
- Injury to the nerve to the lower lip, uncommon; usually temporary weakness of the lip corner.
- Infection or a collection of fluid, uncommon.
- Difficulty swallowing or nerve weakness after injections, uncommon and usually temporary.
Contact the doctor for increasing swelling, pain, fever or difficulty swallowing or breathing.
What results can you expect?
The jawline looks sharper and the angle between the chin and neck is better defined. Results settle over about three months and are long-lasting if your weight stays stable.
What affects the cost of double chin removal in Pune?
- Method: liposuction, injections or a lift.
- Amount of fat and skin quality.
- Anaesthesia and facility.
- Combined procedures, such as a chin implant or facelift.
- Garments, medicines and follow-up visits.
Double chin treatment is cosmetic and usually not covered by insurance.
Questions about double chin correction
Can a double chin be removed without surgery?
Small amounts of fat can be reduced with fat-dissolving injections (deoxycholic acid), usually over two to four sessions with swelling after each. Liposuction removes more fat in one session. Exercises and mewing do not remove fat under the chin.
Will the fat come back after chin liposuction?
The fat cells removed do not grow back. If you gain a lot of weight later, the remaining fat cells can enlarge, so stable weight helps keep the result.
Is there a scar after double chin removal?
Liposuction is done through two or three openings of a few millimetres, usually under the chin and behind the earlobes. These fade to small marks that are hard to see.
What if my skin is loose?
Young, elastic skin usually tightens after the fat is removed. If the neck skin is very loose or there are muscle bands, liposuction alone may leave loose skin, and a neck lift or facelift may be advised.
Is a weak chin making my double chin look worse?
It can. A small chin shortens the jawline and makes fullness under it more obvious. Some people combine chin liposuction with a chin implant.
How long is recovery after chin liposuction?
Most people return to desk work within a few days, wearing a compression strap for about one to two weeks. Swelling settles mostly in a few weeks, and the final jawline is clear by about three months.
